My Essay in Print!

My essay, “The Language of Trees,” was included in Elemental: A Collection of Michigan Creative Nonfiction, edited by Anne-Marie Oomen, and published by Wayne State University Press. We just learned that it has received a Michigan Notable Book Award for 2018. We are very happy!

Other Workshops

I’m teaching The Practice of Poetry for Interlochen College of Creative Arts online from February 4-March 3, 2019.

I’ll teach at their beautiful northern Michigan campus again in May—Live Your Art Retreat—and July—Poetry Writing Intensive: Short Poems—with at least one workshop slated for fall 2019.

Of Note

It’s winter and I’m watching more movies than usual. In the last month I loved Roma and Tramps and I think other poets and artists will appreciate them, too.

My favorite poetry experience of the last year: Memorial: A Version of Homer’s Iliad, by Alice Oswald. Andy sent it to me this summer after I inquired about what was in his back pocket and it was everything I want in a book. Moving, sonic, affecting, powerful.
